Every month we receive hundreds of wonderful photos from all our kitten fans in their favourite Kitten D’Amour attire. This beautiful lady caught our eye and kindly took the time to talk to us about her life in LA, traveling, and her passion for fashion.
Name: Samantha
Age: 27
Kitten D’Amour: Congratulations Samantha, we couldn’t choose one Kitten this month and you’re our lucky runner up. So tell me a little about yourself, where are you from? And where are you living now?
Samantha: I grew up in Brisbane (where I fell in love with Kitten D’Amour, back when it first opened on Adelaide Street). I’ve also lived in Melbourne, Canberra and Osaka, and am now studying in sunny LA

Kitten D’Amour: Wow, you’ve traveled a lot! How did you discover Kitten D’Amour?
Samantha: I was studying at UQ, and my girlfriends and I had to walk along Adelaide Street each day to change from the train to the bus. I think it was about three days after Kitten D’Amour (then Sex Kitten) first opened its doors, when my best friend said ‘there’s a gorgeous new shop on Adelaide Street…you have to see it, it’s so you!’. It turns out she knew me well!
Kitten D’Amour: What is your educational background?
Samantha: For some reason, I can’t seem to get away from University. I’m now doing a PhD in Economics at, of all places, the Caltech of Big Bang theory! I’d like to say that the show is wrong about nerds, but the truth is I often feel like a Penny among Sheldons…
Kitten D’Amour: What are your general professional and non-professional interests?
Samantha: Hmmm well, I love clothes (especially vintage), and I’ve recently gotten into upcycling. I’m an economist by profession, which means I get paid to spend a lot of time thinking about shopping! I also dance – West Coast Swing most recently, but also modern jive, ballroom, tango (I took lessons in Argentina) and Salsa. I love to travel and see the world, which might also be why I keep moving around.
Kitten D’Amour: What a fun hobby! Which magazines do you read and which TV shows and films do you like the most?
Samantha: Downton Abbey, Pushing Daisies, Firefly, Big Bang Theory (I think that one is required for all Caltech students). The most recent thing I read was The Hunger Games, and I can’t wait for the movie. I enjoy reading about fashion too, but I find the internet to be much better than any magazines I’ve come across.
Kitten D’Amour: What is it that inspires you?
Samantha: My baby sister. She passed away last year, but she was one of the most talented artists/photographers/filmmakers I have ever met.
Kitten D’Amour: Describe how you would like to spend the perfect day?
Samantha: I’d sleep in, then take my brother and sisters (both of them) to brunch down at Santa Monica beach. We’d laze around down there, maybe go for a walk. Coffee and vintage shopping with my Mum afterward (stopping by the brand new Kitten D’Amour shop in Hollywood hint hint!). Then a romantic dinner with my boyfriend in the evening, before going out for a night of dancing together.
Kitten D’Amour: That sounds fantastic! What are some of your favourite designers/clothing stores/ websites?
Samantha: Kitten D’Amour of course! And my ever-growing 50s dress collection, which I adore. I’m also a style ambassador for modcloth.com, which has helped me find other such delights as Bernie Dexter, Darling and Ryu.

Kitten D’Amour: How would you define your personal style?
Samantha: Boldly feminine. My goal is to look like a work of art every time I left home.
Kitten D’Amour: What do you like most about Kitten D’Amour?
Samantha: It manages to be beautiful and unique at the same time. I have hunted and hunted for anything similar in the US, and I just can’t find it.
Kitten D’Amour: What is your favourite Kitten D’Amour design and why?
Samantha: You have to promise not to hold me to this one – since there will probably be a new design out next week that I will like even better! I think the collection I own the most pieces from is Roses, but the new Love and Cherish is to die for.
Kitten D’Amour: Tell us about an occasion where you were complimented for wearing a Kitten D’Amour outfit.
Samantha: Other than every single time I wear one? Americans are much more forward than Australians – I was literally stopped on Hollywood Boulevard several times the day I took this photo because people wanted to compliment me on my dress. If you could have any garment from our collections which would it be? And why?

Kitten D’Amour: If you could have any garment from our collections which would it be? And why?
Samantha: I missed out on the Sunday Picnic Dress ages and ages ago, and I still regret that.
Kitten D’Amour: Thank you for your time Samantha, and we wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors!
Till next time,
